Bell Island_Day 04

By our fourth day, we had everything set up and now it was time for the real labour-intensive work.

We spent most of the day loading rocks into the gabion cages, which turned out to be a great workout for our biceps! Though the rocks were not as heavy as those that would have been loaded into the carts by the miners, they were definitely heavier than your average rock, due to their high iron-ore content (rock containing iron-ore is quite dense, which makes it heavier per volume). Late in the day, as the sun finally came out, Ryan and Adam started on assembling a prototype of the wood decking which we designed as seating for some portions of the gabion wall.
