As per John’s recommendation, the team dined at the Bonavista Social Club, a new ‘hot spot’ in the community for foodies, visitors and locals alike. Set in the hillside of Amherst Cove with a great view of the magenta sunset (colour inspiration for the build?!).
Dinner was delicious and the group was intrigued by the restaurant’s efforts to be organic and provide food sourced from within a 100km radius. After dinner (read rhubarb lemonade, mixed greens, braised lamb pasta and partridgeberry pudding) the group met with the head chef Katie Hayes. Her father, Mike Patterson, a skilled carpenter and woodworker, built the exposed timber-frame structure for her. We were also lucky enough to have a personal tour of Mike’s woodworking shop to see some of his window restoration projects.
We drove back at dusk to Port Union, hoping to find a moose, but we’re still waiting on our first sighting…
