Build Day 5

Build: Day Five

The final day of build went smoothly as we completed the remainder of the wooden platform, added the final stones to the second stone volume and cleaned up the site in preparation for our grand reveal. Despite the unpleasant weather, spirits were high as we finally saw our vision come to life.
As a summary, our goal was a create a rest stop and lookout point along Brigus’ historic walking trail. Though the trail takes 1.5 hours to walk (each direction), we decided the ultimate location for our rest stop/lookout would be within the first 15 minutes of the trail to ensure that it was accessible by a larger portion of the community, notably the large elderly population. This particular site is among one of the first points along the trail that a hiker is able to get a full panoramic view of the beautiful town of Brigus and the Brigus Bay beyond. The intention of the project, constructed using many local building technologies, is meant to act as a place to rest, take in the view, or even have a picnic. The red colour of the deck stands out boldly against the landscape and makes it visible from many places in town. The project aims to act as an instigator to the revitalization of this historic trail in hopes that it will encourage locals and tourists to use it more often.

We’re proud of the accomplishment we were able to achieve in just 5 short days and can all agree that it wouldn’t have been possible without such a well-rounded team. Each of us brought something valuable to the table and our group dynamic not only ensured that the project ran smoothly but also made the whole experience fun and memorable.
