Build: Day Four

All Hands on Deck! Today we went from stone walls to Cantilever Red and although it had its rocky moments, we finished right on schedule.

Amongst the dense and moody fog (pathetic fallacy, perhaps?) our day begun with work divided between the master masons up at the site and our lumber workers at Shane’s house.  While Shane’s generous supply of tools allowed the final miter cuts to be made by James and Michael, the rest of the group gathered stones, built them into our second stone volume and even painted a few.

As the stone volume grew taller, a strategy was devised to begin the installation of the final element of our design.  The assembly of the nearly eighty 2×10 boards began with every one of our 8 team members hands-on.  Teamwork was the key ingredient as we slid the boards on to their threaded ties, literally every hand was needed.  As the clouds rolled in and a light mist began to fall, we concluded our 12 work day.

Lots left to do tomorrow, but we’ll get it all done with time to spare for our grand opening bonfire at the Brigus beach.  Look out for a torch lit dusk journey to the site afterwards!
